The McCullogh Gultch trail is a short but intense trek on the south side of Mt.Quandry peak in Breckenridge, Colorado. Beginning the hike before sunrise, I witnessed the beauty of the sun as it capped one of the tallest peaks in Colorado. At this moment, I experienced the elegance of Colorado before the influx of residents. I continued the hike up the mountain as the sun pierced the tree line. In these times, I realize how tranquil and mysterious the wild can be. As I descended the mountain, I quickly remembered the overpopulation in Colorado; ages ranging from children to older adults began the trek up the mountain mid-day. Although it was not permanent, the few hours I got with nature and my girlfriend allowed for a serenity that was much needed.
Lake Kipmik was the first place I experienced the wild in its raw form. I learned more from my two weeks at the shore of this lake than I have in my numerous years of schooling. I plan on continuing my teachings in these natural environments in hopes of spreading my findings with a generation that is slowly disregarding the well-being of our home, planet Earth.
